About the tester

The "little black box" is not black. Advertising suggests appearance of the case may vary; this one happens to be almond-colored plastic, and is composed of upper and lower halves assembled in a clamshell fashion. Dimensions are approximately 3 1/8" x 1 1/8" x 6". There is no name or logo on the case, except that a small 2000 calendar imprinted with the name of a supply house, presumably where boxes of this sort may be purchased, is pasted on the bottom. One end (which I'll call the "front") is drilled with five holes to accommodate four green LED's and a pushbutton switch. The opposite end (the "back") has a single hole drilled in it, fitted with a jack for the DC power input. There is a single row of five drilled holes, spaced 1" apart, in the upper half along each side.

The holes are rather crudely machined, most being out-of-round with burrs left on and, in some places, significant gouges. My guess is that they were done with a drill press or a hand-held drill. The hole where the power input jack is mounted, in the photograph below, clearly shows both gouges and burrs.

It is apparent that the case was not designed and cast for this product, but was machined by hand without the proper equipment. This suggests very low volume of production.

The DDR is powered via a standard DC adaptor labeled to output 12 V at 500 mA. The label also states, "for indoor use only."
